History

Klimenti is an old village of Corinth in northern Peloponnese, in Greece which was built in 1400 AD. It is located in the steep slopes of the mount Ziria, at 960 meters altitude while it is close to the lake Stymphalia and 20 km upstream from the coastal city of Kiato (ancient Sikyon). Since the early 19th century, the residents of Klimenti dealt with the agriculture, the viticulture but especially with the cultivation of raisins of Corinth.

In 1993, George Giouls, agronomist and oenologist (university of Bordeaux II), having considered the characteristics of this mountainous region, established in Klimenti, place of his origin, the winery Domaine Gioulis and planted his first vineyard of Cabernet Sauvignon vines. This vineyard is regarded as one of the first certified organic vineyards in Greece.

Over the years the Domaine Gioulis expanded the buildings and its vineyards. Actually, the son of George Gioulis, Dimitris having studied oenology (university of Athens) and his daughter Ermioni with studies in Business Administration and in the trade of wines & spirits (École Supérieure de Commerce, Dijon), continue the route of the company along with their father.

The aim of the family winery is the production of fine wines, from its privately owned vineyards, highlighting the qualitative characteristics of the mountainous PGI Klimenti.
